The best free roguelike browser games
You do not need a gaming PC or a Steam account to play a good roguelike. These six open in a browser tab, and they cover nearly the whole genre, from deep classics to games you can learn in a minute.
We make Slide & Slay, so we are not neutral about it. We have tried to describe the other games fairly and to say when one of them is the better pick. Details checked November 2026.

Brogue: the elegant classic
WebBrogue lets you play Brian Walker's Brogue in your browser. It is a traditional dungeon crawl, and the site calls it a roguelike masterpiece. Start here if you want to see what the genre is at its purest.
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup: the deep one
Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is an open-source roguelike you can play online through its WebTiles servers. You register a name on the server you connect to, so this is not quite instant, and accounts are not shared between servers. In return you get one of the deepest games here. Pick it when you are ready for something to learn over months.
Tavern Rumble: a deckbuilder for phone or desktop
Tavern Rumble starts you with basic mercenary cards. You strengthen your deck and take on bosses, dragging and dropping cards to play them. It is a good first roguelike if you already like card games.
Cardlike: a tenser deckbuilder
Cardlike is another deck-builder on CrazyGames, which describes it as high stakes. You tap or click to pick cards, so it also suits a phone.
10 Minutes Till Dawn: pure action
10 Minutes Till Dawn has one goal: survive enemies for ten minutes. You move with WASD and shoot with the mouse. It is a roguelite rather than a strict roguelike, and it only runs on desktop.
Slide & Slay: a roguelike you play with one thumb
Ours. Slide & Slay mixes roguelike runs with 2048: every swipe slides every tile on a 5×5 board, weapons merge and get stronger, and monsters count down to their next hit. A boss rises every 20 swipes and lets you choose 1 of 3 relics, from 20 in the game, so each run becomes its own build.
It is much lighter than Brogue or Crawl, and that is the point: it is made for a phone and a short break. There are 7 heroes to unlock, an endless mode where gold buys permanent upgrades, and a daily dungeon where everyone plays the same board on equal terms. There is no account to create before you play. Optional purchases include gold and cosmetics.
Roguelike or roguelite?
You will see both words. A traditional roguelike is usually played on a grid, one turn at a time, and death wipes everything. A roguelite is looser: it often adds real-time action and keeps some progress between runs. Brogue and Crawl are on the traditional side, 10 Minutes Till Dawn is a roguelite, and Slide & Slay's endless mode keeps your banked gold, so it sits closer to a roguelite too.
Which should you start with?

- You are on your phone: Slide & Slay, Tavern Rumble or Cardlike.
- You want the real, punishing thing: Brogue, then Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup.
- You just want to blast things: 10 Minutes Till Dawn.
Questions
Can you play roguelikes in a browser without downloading anything?
Yes. Everything on this list opens in a browser. Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup asks you to register a name on the server, and 10 Minutes Till Dawn is desktop only on CrazyGames.
What is the best browser roguelike for beginners?
Slide & Slay opens with a three-step tour. If you already like card games, try Tavern Rumble. Brogue and Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup expect more patience.
What is the difference between a roguelike and a roguelite?
Traditional roguelikes reset everything when you die and usually play on a grid, one turn at a time. Roguelites keep some progress between runs and are often more action-focused.
Which browser roguelikes work on a phone?
Slide & Slay was built for phones. CrazyGames lists Tavern Rumble and Cardlike as working on mobile too.
